This allows scientist to manipulate these cells so that they became what ever kind of cell that they desire.In the future, medical researchers anticipate being able to use technologies derived from stem cell research to treat a wider variety of diseases including  , Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, and  Ã‚  damage, amongst a number of other impairments and conditions. Adult stem cells can be found in both children and adult.These stem cells rely on the already present cell population. They are also called somatic cells, these cells contain the blueprints for any cell type that exists within the region, or organ from which they came. Just like the ability to be manipulated into other cells(Weise, 2005) . The difference between these cells and embryonic stem cells is the fact that embryonic cells can make any type of cell type while adult cells can only make certain types. There is much less controversy associated with adult stem cells because there is no destruction of embryonic material.There is still opposition versus the use of adult stem cells because of how the DNA inside the cells is used. Embryonic stem cell research has the unlimited range on where it can go in the future and it is the most controversial. Embryonic stem cells can start to grow into any type of cell. This is because these cells are in the the first stage of development and have not been given instructions on what to become. These stem cells are preset when an embryo's cells are multiplying. This would be the the first stage in a babies development. This is the reason why there is controversy surrounding embryonic research.Scientist destroy the embryo to obtain its stem cells ultimately destroying a future life. The embryos tend to be from unwanted pregnancy and would eventually breakdown because the lack of a mother to develop in. People that support certain movements like â€Å"Pro-life† are some usually do not want any kind of destruction of any kind of possible human life. The use of these stems cells should be allowed to be used , but the practice of starting off life o nly to destroy it is completely unethical and should not be funded by. The obtaining of stem cells just has to be reevaluated.We have to look at the other options that can help us to yield the results we want. There are a number of options that can help us obtain stem cells that can help to cure all the ailments that stem cell can help with. Also known as somatic cells, an adult cell contains the blueprints for any cell type that exists within the region, or organ from which it came. In effect, these cells have the same capabilities in terms of being able to manufacture other cell types. Through electrical stimulation, the ovum begins to grow as if its original embryo were intact. Induced pluripotent cells are adult cells that have been genetic ally engineered to behave like embryonic cells(Jeanty) . This is accomplished by injecting specific genes and catalyst molecules into the DNA of an adult cell. This technique uses no embryonic stem cell materials, however the resulting cells are able to differentiate into any cell type within the body, much like embryonic stem cells can(Jeanty) .Epidermal neural crest stem cells are adult cells that form the hair follicles on the scalp. Not telling you where he came from or why he is there makes the story enticing and entertaining. The author was adding to the rising action. The setting in the very beginning was the Jungle. After Ralph walks for a small amount of time, a voice calls out to him asking for help, and to wait up. This is another way to make the story seem mysterious. He learns it is a boy with the nickname Piggy. Piggy joins Ralph and they walk to a lagoon. There they find a conch shell and Ralph blows through the conch which then calls on an large amount of boys. The author most likely added this to make another curve to the story. To show how much about the place Ralph and Piggy didn’t know. When the large group arrived, a boy named Jack Merridew asked where the ship was, and where an adult was. This showed how ignorant Ralph was because he had no clue what the conch sound meant to the people that were already there. Then Johnny and the twins Sam and Eric arrived along with many other younger and older boys. They talk as if they all have an education which shows they were also put here, not born here. The dialog seems modern and easily understandable, which shows that the setting is more recent than historical. Ralph is voted leader and commands that they explore to see if where they are is an island. Accompanying Ralph is Simon and Jack. Piggy is left behind to log names, which upsets him. The reason the author wrote about the exploration is to show the others don’t know where they are either. Throughout the venture, the boys are faced with a series of things in their path. They push a boulder off a cliff. The author most likely added this to show they weren’t hopelessly stranded on the island. The end of the chapter the boys realized they were hungry. They searched for food and found a pig, in the grips of the ‘creepers’. The author didn’t explain what the creepers were and it made it much more elusive. Jack fails to stab the pig quick enough and he made up excuses as to why he couldn’t. It shows that he isn’t nearly as tough as he lead on to be. He slams his knife into the tree to show he is in fact still the alpha male. The first chapter left many unanswered questions.

Reducing employee defiance Opposition of change is a common human behavior. Particularly, in the workplace people resist the change in organizational culture, structure and policies. But in order to successfully and effectively implement the change management program, it is important for Coca Cola Company that it should develop strategies to reduce employee defiance to change. Kotter and Schlesinger (1979) explained six strategies which can be useful for coca cola Company in employee defiance management. First strategy is to involve the employee in change process and make them participate as far as they can. Second strategy is to communicate the change management programs to the people effectively to educate them about the benefits the programs would bring. This will make them comfortable in adopting the change. Third strategy is negotiation and agreement. The company should create a consensus on important change issues and with the agreement of all important stakeholders; it should launch the change management program. The resistance level will be zero on change programs that are being launched with the mutual agreement of all relevant stakeholders. Fourth strategy is that to support the employees who are due to some disability or emotional or psychological issue or some other threat unable to adapt to the change. If the company develops proper channel for such people, they would adjust gradually to the change management program. In case of failure of above mentioned four strategies, company can manipulate the employees by calling union leader other than relevant ones as fifth strategy. Sixth strategy is to force the employees with articulate or non-articulate methods but this is not a very good approach. Communicate the changes to the employees; tell them why the change was inevitable and how they will benefit from the change. We discuss background checks, electronic surveillance, the internet and email privacy and more. Employee privacy laws for both U.S. and European union are different in multiple ways. In this document, we will compare the laws by researching the various applicable employee privacy laws both the nations implement for the corporate sector. The two aspects of employee and employer relationship are monitoring employee and conducting background checks. United States European Union The diminished expectation of privacy at the work environment. At the work, environment employees are entitled to expect privacy. Monitoring of employees is okay if the employer is providing a full notice about the monitoring activities and its purpose. Failing to notice will subject the employer to liability Only on instances of important business need and specific instances employee can be monitored by the employer. It is much stricter than the US privacy laws. The privacy laws in use a patch work of the U.S. federal and state privacy laws which regulate the collection of data on certain instances of sensitive information protection of health or financial information, special protection for groups such as children, address the certain abuse of apparent market failure. The collection and use of personal data across all sectors is regulated with omnibus data protection laws. Table 1 United States vs European Union privacy law differences 2.1. United States The primary federal law leading the background checks in united states is the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). FCRA is applicable to both California and Illinois, the state laws can provide more rights to employees but they will not be able to take away the basics of FCRA. The FCRAs goal is to protect and provide accurate the information regarding the credit history, capacity, reputation and worthiness of the employee/consumer. FCRA is only applicable for the employers or firms and not for individuals who want to perform a background check on themselves or verify their credit reputation. Only particular agencies and employers are eligible for requesting FCRA for the background check. The employer who is requesting the background check must have be complied with certain other Federal and state laws. The employers who request for background check report for employment purpose, per the FCRA the employer or the agencies must provide the employee/ applicant a clear and noticeable printed notice about the change and receive a printed consent from the employer who is requesting the report. The documented printed should be a separate document and not part of another document. Agency who provide the background service for employment, the employer must be certified that the employer: Should have employees consent in printed format Must have provided notice to the employee. The reports information shouldnt be used in violation for equal employment opportunity regulation. Employer must be complied with FCRA requirements, before executing any action with the report In California, the FCRA has a plus, where it allows the applicants who have gone through background check view there report and know if any information is any inaccurate. And it also allows the employer to perform the checks. As FCRA in whole only allows the agency third party to perform the checks. In California, this process is called Investigative Consumer Report (ICR). An employer can only request reports for certain positions and per the categories the applicant must be informed. 2.2. European Union In the European union when the employer wants to run a background check on the applicants or the employees in the firm, to assess and verify the details, the employer must comply to the local member state laws at the firms location and the Data Protection Acts (DP Acts) for EU. Every member state has specific laws which affect the background check, specifically for criminal records. Every member states background check will have a different report. Local state Labor and Employment laws also have obligations on the checks. 2.2.1. France In France for background checks the employer must get prior permissions from the DP Acts in France it is called CINL, this is to collect information for background check. The employer only allowed to get personal information only which is directly relevant to the background checking. The law in France prohibits checks on credit transactions, even if the applicant is willing to provide. Only for certain categories of job position it can be retrieved and must be with consent and information which can be retrieved is limited. The applicants apply for certificate of good standing to get conviction, court record or legal judgements and proceedings. The employer must inform the applicant with the information about: Data transfer to United States People who will receive the information Purpose of the data collection Ability to correct data after its collection Mandatory questions CINL specifies that all the information about the applicant can be viewed and edited after submission of the application for checking. 2.2.2. Germany In Germany Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG) is the DP Acts that regulates the local law where the applicants personal information cannot be collected and processed without the permission from the applicant, consent is a must and lawfully. Only limited information can be retrieved from the applicant and any violation will lead to fine up to 300,000 pounds. The applicants work development experience and criminal history can be collected and processed. Only during the recruitment process, if failed a written consent will be required from the applicant. Credit worthiness cannot be checked under German DP Acts. 2.2.3. United Kingdom In UK, the information commissioners Office (ICO) regulates the DP Acts. Is very general background checks, they can collect information about the applicant for specific job. The difference is the ICO states that the data collected must be destroyed in a secure  Ã‚   manner within six months. 3.1. United States Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) denies monitoring and tapping of electronic, email, oral and wire communications. Only email accounts given by the employer can be monitored. Stored Communications Act (SCA) is about the stored messages and its access. It is unlawful to access the contents or electronic communication without authorization or intentionally. It also a violation to prevent alter the data in the storage. The SCA states that the employers being the service providers of the email communication service which is dedicated for the firm can be used to monitor the employees email communication and retrieve the email, this has been approved by the US Court. The employers are also reserve the right to monitor the internet usage of the employees in the firm. Employers already mention the policies which will be implied and is requested by the employees to go through them be aware of them being monitored. 3.2. European Union The European unions DP directives and telecommunication directive are considered also European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and article 29 working party opinion, all these laws are implied on the monitoring of employees. Proportionality Monitoring of the employee data must be in scope and hidden monitoring actives must be voided by the employer. Having an audio and video monitoring at a place which is expected to ensure privacy must be avoided. 3.2.5. Accuracy and Data Retention The data must be stored only for 3 months and not more. The data collected must be for the mentioned monitoring objectives.   The data collected must be retained and updated for the period of task which required the monitoring. 3.2.6. Security The employer must have in place protection for the personal data logged from monitoring and make sure the data is not being altered or breached. 3.3. France Employee must be informed before monitoring is initiated. The employer must define the policies properly with the mention of disciplinary actions. Before making the policies final the labor inspector must approve the internal rules mentioned in the policy. The related files and emails which are monitored must only be viewed with the concerned employees presence and only during an investigation. 3.4. Germany The employers communication facility must be prohibited to use, until necessary. Then the employee monitoring is approved. The employer is not allowed to tap, sniff or monitor the internet usage or email communication of the employee private internet provider. United Kingdom Interception of communications and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act(RIPA) regulate the monitoring laws. They specify the extent an employer can try to monitor and record the data of the employees. and, how the data is being monitored, is it internally or being sent over the network. Mobile device communication monitoring is allowing. The employer must inform the employees about the monitoring, adhering the transparency requirement. And any unlawful monitoring is same a criminal offense. 4. Conclusion Both the regions European Union and United States have different approached toward the employees privacy. In European Union employers, must justify every detail collected about the applicant or employee and the monitoring is nearly denied in law in France, Germany and United Kingdom, these state members impose their own laws. Alternatively, which in United States, the data collection from the employee and applicant is legal under the law until unless it is being misused and deviating from the purpose of the collected personal information. Car Safety Automobile Safety It’s a dark rainy night. You and your family are coming home from a late night family party. As a car is coming through an intersection another car cut in front of it. The driver decides to hit the brakes so you can avoid the car, but as he presses the brakes, the car loses control on the slick wet road. He is not able to gain control and at that point he has endangered the lives of himself and many others on the road. This is just one example of the many types of things that occur in our streets everyday. All that would have been needed to avoid this situation would have been a traction control system in his car, which would have detected that the car was skidding and would have applied the brakes to the necessary wheels, therefore correcting the skid. Automotive companies must mandate the installation and improvement of specific safety devices to make our vehicles safer. The opposing forces are against my argument mainly because of one reason, money. These are mainly uninformed people who are more concerned with monetary issues rather than the safety and well being of every of everyone on our streets. They see things differently, for example, instead of mandating some things such as a traction control system in a car, which costs no more than $200-600 (Krebs 30), could in the long run lower their insurance costs, and prevent them from a potentially harmful accident. They would much rather have $200-600 worth of accessories. It goes to show you that these people chose style and comfort over their lives and the live of others. Most of the automotive accident statistics are quite overwhelming, and they show for themselves why today’s cars must be made safer. 6,289,000 reported crashes, 3,200,000 people injured, and 41,345 deaths (car accident statistics). Lord of the Flies How does Golding show mankind’s inner evil? Do you agree with his assumption that man is basically evil? Lord of the Flies is a book written by William Golding, influenced greatly by the events in World War II, when the news of the Holocaust and the concentration camps were materializing. Golding was shaken at the terrible nature of war and what humans can do to one another, not referencing the Holocaust or other wartime crimes, but for humans to be unaware ably evil. The book, Coral island, by Robert Ballantyne in 1857, which was a book about three boys shipwrecked on a pacific island and their victory over their situations, also influenced Golding, and the character names are similar to those in Coral island, Deliberately, as Golding says. In the dictionary, the definition of Evil is that of morally bad or wrong, Characterised by anger or is malicious, Also one violating or inconsistent with the moral law. Golding introduces the theme that evil, as a destructive force in man, society and civilisation is present in us all. Golding used the beastie, described by the little uns to represent evil that is part of human nature. After dusk, they describe that the beast lurks in the jungle, hunting and it wishes to overcome them. By day, the ‘beast’ disguises itself as creepers that innocently hang among the canopy of the trees. The vines may represent human nature in the daylight of civilisation, but in the darkness in a new environment, their real predatory nature surfaces. The little’uns scream in terror at the burning creepers during the forest fire â€Å"Snakes! Snakes! Look at the Snakes!† this is said to be an allusion to the serpent in the garden of Eden, who stole innocence and brang civilization to its own physicality. Golding shows man’s inner evil many ways throughout the text, but one of the main ways he expressed this is through characters such as Jack and Roger. Jacks first appearance was with his choir which was thought to be a dark creature, but it turned out to be a ‘party of boys’ marching in time in two parallel lines and dressed in strange clothing, possibly referencing uniformed military, seen to be evil from the beginning. Jack’s warlike attitude is clear from the start as he volunteers his choir to be hunters and he also carries around a knife. Jack wanted to keep rules, and agreed that they all had to co-operate â€Å"I agree with Ralph.

Love as Joyous Essay

Both Plath and the Metaphysical Poets show love as joyous by suggesting a strong physical intimacy between themselves and their lovers. Donne, known for his hedonistic ways tried to seduce his lady in the poem ‘To his mistress going to bed† by relating her undressing to a holy analogy. â€Å"Hallowed temple†¦ heaven†¦ paradise†¦ Angels† gives a sense of purity about the relationship and emphasises the innocence in that the love they are about to share is purely between them. Along with this, in order to fortify the intimacy felt during love making Donne uses polysemic terms such as â€Å"My mine of precious stones† which not only displays mine as a first person possessive pronoun- perhaps showing pride in the possession he has over his mistress- but also the mine that is her genitals- the new land he is yet to discover. Similarly Plath uses polysemantic terms as a way of showing the exclusivity in her relationships in the poem ‘Ariel , specifically referring to the apparent lesbian affair she had soon after her and Ted Hughes split ‘ – † The child’s cry melts in the wall† not only suggests that when with her alleged lesbian partner she’s free for the burden of motherhood and can just focus on their passion but also that when being in a homosexual relationship the possibilities of conceiving a child are none an therefore there is no-one else to detract from the bond and overwhelming desire that the 2 have for each other. Plath also represents this intimacy by using metaphorical imagery such as â€Å"White Godiva† which indicates the female naked freedom while also subtly protesting against her husband by portraying this great female symbol. Plath also uses imagery to intensify the passion she feels in love making with another woman – † The brown arc of the neck† and † into the red eye† suggest the vagina and feminists would argue that Plath portrays the orgasm as † Foam to the wheat glitter of seas† which exaggerates the intimacy experienced when the 2 are at their most vulnerable naked states. Along with this both Plath and the Metaphysicals display the joyous love by the overwhelming of emotions that it creates. In Donne’s poem † To his Mistress Going To Bed† the whole poem is written in one stanza with its contents being ridden with enjambment â€Å"we easily know By this these Angels from an evil sprite:†. This shows the feelings Donne has as not being able to express them fast enough as, as he’s seducing her, so many emotions are being created – at the foremost frustration and lust. At the time, Donne was known for being debauched and this excitement and unable to contain his feeling emphasises how much he risked in order to sleep with the woman. The use of plosives such as â€Å"Behind before, above, between, below† represent the transactional and heightening strength of the emotion whilst the caesura in the line suggests Donne needs to pause after the words to try and calm himself down from all the overwhelming urges and desires he has for his mistress. As Donne was a child genius and was working in law by the time he was 17 he was popular with the ladies, and so when a woman such as the one he’s addressing in the poem doesn’t succumb to his epicurean ways so easily, his emotions flair and overwhelm him into an almost plea for her to make love with him. Plath also uses linguistic features in portraying the overbearing love and excitement she has for her first child to be born. â€Å"You’re† is a poem written during her pregnancy of her first child Frieda. She uses the phrase â€Å"Vague as fog and looked for like mail† to represent the anticipation and urgency she has to meet her new child. However, this is a homophone and mail could also mean â€Å"male† as in the absence of her husband Ted Hughes who was rarely around. At the time she was having relationship issues with Ted and building a new everlasting love bond with her new child and so the conflict in positive and negative emotions at the time would have certainly been overwhelming. The fog in this phrase represents the uncertainty and space between the mother and the gestating baby which may also be ironic of the disbelief she has that she can love a person so much without having met them yet. Finally both the metaphysical poets and Plath display love as joyous by seeing it as an opportunity for a new start. Donne sees this new start being one as starting from the pure naked state in the relationship – † to enter in these bonds is to be free† is an oxymoron as the bond of marriage incarcerates two people in a relationship eternally. However Donne is expressing that by having this new start of marriage they will have a sense of freedom and self completion making love even more joyous. Whether Donne actually meant to marry the woman is questionable, after his strong womanising reputation however if he is then the new start he would have in actually committing himself in a marriage shows the strength of the love he feels. Plath, in â€Å"Ariel† sees the birth of her first child as a new start for herself. The metaphor of the last 2 lines â€Å"Right, like a well-done sum. A clean slate, with your own face on† shows the positivity she already sees in this new being â€Å"well-done sum† and â€Å"clean slate†. At the time she was going through hardships in her marriage with Ted Hughes and so the new child could be a source for a new start of optimistic love and a positive source to project happiness onto. The compound words in â€Å"Thumbs-down on the dodo’s mode. † Represents the new life and thus new beginning Plath will receive from the new baby whilst the assonance of the ‘o’ sound fortifies this by showing certainty and stability she sees in that this undoubtedly will give her the release and new start that she’s needed for so long

Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics Reading Questions (1) In the Meno, Plato argued that it was impossible for us to learn something genuinely new: if you know x, you needn’t inquire about x, and if you don’t know x, you won’t recognize it when you find it. This method can be used to prove anything because we are not considering the distinctive properties of each factor. Also, concluding that the results are not deduction nor relevant to the things assumed. (4) Can you explain Aristotle’s claim that â€Å"perception produces the universal in us†? How does this explain how something indemonstrable can be known? Aristotle claims that â€Å"perception produces the universal in us† it describes that we have prior knowledge of a subject that is a commonly accepted idea until one of the factors from that subject proves otherwise. It is not to say that because one takes a stand that all others will do as well but through reasoning we can come to a paradigm shift that accepts the new theory. It would not need to be demonstrated then but simply understood and accepted amongst the community. (5) Plato would agree with Aristotle that we can know x in virtue of having demonstrated that x. But he would disagree with Aristotle’s account of how indemonstrable can be known. Why, and what would he say instead? Plato would disagree with Aristotle’s account of how indemonstrable can be known because where he understood universals as forms, Aristotle believes universals are generalizations from particulars.

Explain how you can promote inclusion Essay

I teach on a one to one basis but if i was working in a classroom environment I would promote inclusion in the classroom by using various methods. These include Partnering different abilities of learners so they can learn from each other and all have a chance to get to know each other/work with each other. Asking different members of the classroom to give their opinions so all have the opportunity to contribute. Forming groups and varying the learners chosen to form these groups. Asking learners to be respectful of each others opinions and respecting when another member of the class or the teacher are speaking and not interrupting Encouraging open discussion and incorporating everyone into the discussions. Whether I am teaching in a group environment or one to one I would promote inclusion by using language that doesn’t discriminate, resources that reflects diversity and ensuring that I always remember that all students are different and I need to adapt to meet the need of each learner. It is also important to give the students the opportunity to give feedback on my teaching methods and content, thereby making them feel empowered within their learning environment. All learners will bring different skills and experiences with them to enhance the learning environment. Completing an individual learning plan for all learners makes it possible to adjust the course content to suit the individual learner. Implementing equality and diversity in the learning environment creates a happy and rewarding learning experience where learners will complete their learning with the confidence and qualifications to proceed further into life, work or education. Where required, a referral for internal or external help and support may be necessary.

Contingent Workers Overused & Underpaid

Contingent Workers Being Overworked and Underpaid â€Å"Inside Amazon’s Warehouse†Ã¢â‚¬â€Morning Call 09/17/11 I found this article particularly interesting because it is local and it shows the abundance of temporary workers in this job market and how they are willing to be treated to keep a job and have income even if it is only $11-$12 an hour. Integrity Staffing Solutions is the company that hires temporary workers for the Amazon warehouse in Breinigsville, PA. These temporary employees are told by ISS that if they work hard while in this position they may be hired into permanent positions but this rarely happened.The temporary positions would end after a number of hours and then they can re-apply for these same positions within a few months. The reality was that many of these temporary workers never got offered or â€Å"promoted† to a permanent position though. This is said to be the future for many companies in that they hire more temporary staff than perma nent because they do not expect benefits and will work for lower pay. Warehouse positions such as this are very high demand both physically and mentally. With them being temporary workers they would just be let go and then another temporary worker would be assigned to this same position. These positions were physically demanding and people could not keep up with the increasing demands that were handed down by the company.They talk of the heat index in the summer in the warehouse would reach over 100 degrees and they would have ambulances waiting outside the building to assist people. If a temporary worker became ill or couldn’t physically do the job anymore their assignment would be terminated and they would no longer have a job.
